Mugwort is effective in cases of dysmenorrheas ( menstrual pains), functionnal amenorrheas (insifficient periods, and menopausal troubles.
Mugwort has always been a popular emmenagogue because of a specific action on the womb as an antispasmodic.
Besides this, it has hypoglycaemic virtues (lowers blood sugar) and aids digestion as a bitter tonic. These effects are due to its essential oils, the main constituent of which is cineol.
