This plant originates in Chile where its leaves have traditionally been used for their positive effect on the gall bladder (choleretic and cholagogue).
Boldo leaves contain essential oils, synergetic alkaloids (boldin) and flavonoid glycosids. It regulates intestinal peristaltis (natural bowel contractions) through a mild choleretic (increasing bile flow) laxative action. It combines well with Combretum.
