The fuit and leaves of the Bilberry (also called Blue Berry) are rich in many active ingredients : vitamins A and C, tannins, pactins, carbohydrates, and especially anthocyans.
The vitamin P action protects capillary and venous blood vessels.
It strenghtens capillary resistance and diminishes capillary permeability whilst also being anti-inflammatory.
It also has an effect on visual keenness, in particular on night vision by regenerating the visual purple of the retina.
Furthermore, due to its tannin, Bilberry is astringent and is a good antidiarrhoeal. An antibacterial action is also noticed on the intestines and the urinary tract.
Bilberry is useful for circulatory ailments such as varicose veins and piles, loss of visual acuity, and bowel or urinary infections, such as diarrhoea, gastro-enteritis, and cystitis.
